The Tula Arms Plant, founded in 1712 under the decree of Peter the Great and transformed into the joint stock company in 1993, is one of the recognized centers of military and double technologies.

Following three-century traditions of arms mastery the plant firstly calls attention of their clients and partners to the military production: high-accuracy anti-tank missiles with a tandem warhead 9M113M, intended to engage the armoured material having the dynamic protection fortified fire emplacements, helicopters flying low; 40 mm underbarrel grenade launcher GP-25 which may be used with modifications of the Kalashnikov submachine guns and gives the opportunity to hit the aim with the flat trajectory and plunging fire, the twice as much or threefold rate of fire exceeds the best foreign analogous systems; 9 mm small-sized submachine guns SR-3 have the dimensions of a machine pistol but exceed it in firing range and defeat manpower and unarmoured equipment at the distance of 200 m; 9 mm special machine carbines AS and sniping rifles VSS are intended for noiseless and flameless shooting at a range up to 400 m, defeating manpower in spite of any body armour vests.

Secondly, TOZ produces nondefense goods including light-weighted, simple and reliable carbines (gauge 5.6mm and 7.62mm), supplied with magazines of variable capacity; double-barrel hunting shotguns, supplied with barrels of various gauge and muzzle choke combinations; single-barrel hunting self-loading shotguns, intended for different kinds of hunting, with a set of various muzzle adapters (choke,half-choke, ”Paradox”).

Thirdly, there are up-to-date highly productive single-loading and multi-charge powder actuated tools PC-84 and PMT-1, intended to make a wide range of operations in the process of constructing and assembling equipment and engineering services.

In many respects due to active penetration of the Quality Control System, which was worked out on the basis of international standard requirements ISO series 9001, and that allows raising the level of production quality management and enhancing the prestige of the plant trade mark, the plant succeeds to retain the old partners and to find the new ones. JSC “TOZ”, one of the first enterprises of that branch, has received the certificates of conformance on quality system for special military equipment and nondefense products. The plant guarantees it has the license for production of military equipment by orders of the government. The whole production has a certificate of conformance.

Beside the traditional trade partners in Russian Federation JSC “TOZ” does business connections with the companies of more than 30 countries of the world: Argentina, Armenia, Byelorussia, Great Britain, Germany, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Mongolia, USA, Ukraine, Finland, France, Czech Republic, SAR and others.

Introducing the high-technology equipment carries out the modernization of the enterprise. The technology of making of contourcomposite parts for sport and hunting weapon on the wire-cut systems AGIECUT and machining centers HERMLE. Penetration of the through computer-aided design system is carried out. The new technologies have been already developed successfully. They are the technology of high-temperature soldering of cold-forged barrels using methods of electrical resistivity and laser engraving on machines LEGEND 32 and TEGRA-50M.

Today more than 6 thousand workmen and specialists work at the plant. Most of them are armourers of top class. The innumerable government awards, honorary titles, insignia given to the employees of the plant confirm it.

We also try to solve a problem of the shortage of young highly qualified personnel, which is urgent for any military-industrial enterprise. In 2003 25 young people were assigned to the Tula State University to get qualifications, which are required at the plant. The State Professional Liceum founded as an industrial school by armourers in 1899 is also engaged in training the qualified workers. Almost all of the trainees who get the metal-working qualifications there do practical training at the workshops of the plant.

One of the most important social programs is the organization of the system of non-governmental provision of pension for the “TOZ” personnel founded in 1999. The retired personnel have an advantage to get extra pension at the expense of the plant along with the state one.

TOZ as the whole country revives the Russian Orthodox traditions. In former times there were two churches at the plant, which were important for the armourers. Unfortunately time had no mercy on them. Nowadays the Church of the Resurrection of Christ has been rebuilt and is open at the territory of the plant.
The Tula Arms Plant makes not only the best of the city, but it’s a symbol of it. The plant is a social problem-solving enterprise that gives hundreds of workplaces, makes professionals and keeps century-old Russian crafts, revives the national pride. This is the future of our national history.
