Shotguns, Carbines And Powder Actuated Tools

- First of all I’d like to emphasize that a shotgun is like a living thing. This is a complex of designer’s ideas, work of a technologist and workers of different specializations. A shotgun isn’t only a shooting unit. It should give joy and aesthetic pleasure to the owner. That’s the main thing in our practice.

One of our last models is a double-barrel over-and-under shotgun TOZ-120 of gauge 12. In our opinion, there is a good combination of reliability, elegance and simplicity in the model. Her principal difference from the well-known model TOZ-34 is a more powerful receiver that allows creating different modifications of shotguns, including combined ones with rifled barrels. The barrels of TOZ-120 are made in cold-forging machines with solidity HRC 30 min and are able to sustain pressure 900 kg/sm2, which arise when using “Magnum”. One can use 12x70 and 12x76 cartridges. The given model is produced with one trigger and it will be produced with two triggers as well.

Hunters, especially abroad, are interested in shotguns of gauge 20 “Magnum”. Using a receiver of gauge 12 we’ve made a double-barrel over-and-under shotgun of that gauge. The tests have already been conducted and assessment of efficiency and certification will happen soon.

The tests are made in the shooting gallery of the plant. At first there are parameters of safety. Overcharged cartridges with pressure 1224 kg/sm2 are used. Barrels are without covering that allows finding out cracks and other defects in case of their appearance. We also use a flaw detector and other means of objective control. A shotgun test includes compactness checking and other parameters.

Such a receiver allows creating a combined shotgun with a rifled barrel and a rifle for a powerful cartridge 9,3x74. We work in this direction.

Nickolay Vasilievich Upirov (single-barrel shotguns and powder actuated tools):

- We continue working on perfecting the hunting small-bore carbines TOZ-78 and TOZ-99. The first one is of pump-action and the second one is self-loading. Both models are simple, reliable, with good handiness. Every cartridge of gauge .22LR is used for shooting. A carbine is supplied with magazines of variable capacity (5 and 10 cartridges); it ensures additional convenience in service. The possibility of mounting an optical sight. Small-bore carbines are in demand. The most of carbines TOZ-78 are exported to the Western European countries.

The carbine TOZ-122 is chambered .308 Win. cartridge. This is a classical purely hunting thing. The carbine is intended for hunting for a beast max. 300kg. The given cartridge (especially with a bullet jacket) has got a good stop function. The magazine capacity is 6 cartridges. The models TOZ-122 chambered 9,3x64 and 223 Rem. are designed.

Recently a powder actuated tool PMT-1 with cassette insertion was worked out. It’s intended for driving dowel-nails into building structures made of concrete, low-carbon steel and brickwork in the process of fastening to them building elements, equipment and engineer communications.

Powder actuated tools permits to fulfil a safe and highly productive construction in any positions. The tool remains in service irrespective of weather conditions, in the temperature range –30°C…+50°C.

The merit of this unit is obvious, its mobility and independence. It doesn’t require an extra energy source.
